A week ago close family members were involved in a car accident
It was pretty serious, the car rolled and they were stuck. Fortunately, two earth angels happened to be working on the road and came to their rescue.
When I found out, my body went straight into fight or flight mode.
Unfortunately I was too far away to do anything, so the only thing I could do was to call.
I did not manage to get through.
Then I reached out to another earth angel whose job amongst many is to train emergency and other people about health and safety.
I knew this conversation would matter to him
A moment to thank him for his role in helping to keep people like my family safe and I meant it with all my heart.
The alternative is not an option worth thinking about.
The truth is the person behind that steering wheel is my rock and the person I turn to first if I need to make a difficult decision.
There is no judgement, just love.
Anyone going through a bereavement or separation or raising children on the other side of the world, knows that someone like this is a real-life hero.
Not least of which because they manage to keep you grounded when all around you feels like it is falling apart.
So how do you say thank you
Not an easy answer.
My turn-to comfort dish when I am feeling run down is my version of Chicken Soup.
Actually, it is more like a chowder (soup and stew combined), but super wholesome and full of vitamins and flavour.
Take a look on our Facebook page here for the step-by-step live demonstration.
However, I wanted to create something extra special, something you can give as a gift from the heart.
This chicken pie uses a South African pastry recipe
It is a simple combination of flour, butter, a pinch of salt and some added freshly chopped rosemary from my garden.
You can see the demonstration here
You can never say thank you enough
For the people who sacrifice their own time and safety to help others.
Those earth angels who live clean so that we can be OK.
The earth angels amongst us.
This is a start.
Thank you from every cell in my body for doing what you do.
May Africa always have a place in your heart,
M.
